Hiking Tips:
Carry plenty of water for the day, drink often to stay hydrated.
Small snacks will keep your energy level up rather than waiting for a big lunch meal after you've emptied your body's reserves.
Leave No Trace - carry out any trash with you.
Bring a hat to prevent sunburn, and use sunscreen even on cloudy or cold days.
Organized your pack, put items back where you expect to find them.
Repackage and bring one-day portion sizes to reduce weight.
Tie a bandanna to your pack strap for a quick wipe of your brow if needed.
Inspect your medications, emergency, and first aid kits before each hike.
Pack rain gear.
Wear layered clothing and dry-wick fabric.
Use trek poles to prevent your hands from swelling by keeping your hands elevated.
Take a photo ID, insurance card, and credit card on the trail.
You may see rock cairns, piles of rocks, along the trail. Don't destroy them, but don't add to them either.
