Hiking Tips:

  • Carry plenty of water for the day, drink often to stay hydrated. 

  • Small snacks will keep your energy level up rather than waiting for a big lunch meal after you've emptied your body's reserves.

  • Leave No Trace - carry out any trash with you.

  • Bring a hat to prevent sunburn, and use sunscreen even on cloudy or cold days.

  • Organized your pack, put items back where you expect to find them.

  • Repackage and bring one-day portion sizes to reduce weight. 

  • Tie a bandanna to your pack strap for a quick wipe of your brow if needed.

  • Inspect your medications, emergency, and first aid kits before each hike. 

  • Pack rain gear. 

  • Wear layered clothing and dry-wick fabric.

  • Use trek poles to prevent your hands from swelling by keeping your hands elevated.

  • Take a photo ID, insurance card, and credit card on the trail. 

  • You may see rock cairns, piles of rocks, along the trail. Don't destroy them, but don't add to them either.
